LOS ANGELES: TikTok CEO Kevin Mayer resigned on Wednesday due to continued pressure from the United States (US) on the popular video-sharing app.
In a letter to employees, Mayer said he made the decision following dramatic changes in the political environment, Xinhua news agency reported.
The video-sharing social network company on Monday filed a lawsuit against President Donald Trump's administration over an executive order banning any U.S. transactions with its parent company ByteDance.
Over the past year, U.S. authorities have repeatedly accused TikTok of potentially threatening national security.
U.S. officials claim the company, owned by Beijing-based ByteDance, could deliver data it collected from video streaming by U.S. residents to the Chinese government, an allegation denied by TikTok, saying it had never been asked to do so.
"Because of that, and as we expect to reach a solution soon, I would like to inform everyone I decided to leave this company," he wrote in the letter.
