AT 18 meters high and weighing 25 tons, the Gundam robot embarked for the first time in Yokohama, Japan.
In a contagious video on social media, the robot was also seen bending and moving his hand.
The giant robot was made with features based on the Gundam RX-78-2, which first appeared in the 1979 Japanese Mobile Suit series Gundam, guided by the protagonist, Amuro Ray.
Created by Japanese animation artist Yoshiyuki Tomino and Sunrise animation studio, the series produces multi-million dollar franchises including Gundam models, animated films, novels and several animated series.
On display at Yokohama Yamashita port, the Gundam robot is the main attraction of the Yokohama Gundam Factory, scheduled to open on October 1.
The preview event, which was supposed to take place in July, was canceled due to COVID-19.
According to the Gundam.info website , the robot is part of the Gundam Global Challenge project, which aims to produce "18-meter-moving Gundam robots that can move".
The Guardian news agency reported that the construction of the robot was planned six years ago. It is carefully designed to ensure that each part meets the weight limit to prevent its limbs from bending, and all 24 moving parts can function smoothly without problems.
This is the second full-size Gundam robot in Japan. The first robot was exhibited on the seafront of Odaiba, Tokyo in 2009, before being replaced by another Gundam statue in 2017.
