WORLD soccer legend Diego Maradona has undergone surgery due to bleeding problems in his brain, Reuters reported .
The surgery was performed less than a week before his 60th birthday.
According to his personal doctor, Leopoldo Luque, Maradona suffered from a subdural hematoma, which is a collection of blood between the membrane and his brain.
Luque, a neurologist, said the problem may have been caused by an accident, but Maradona said he did not remember the incident.
The former Argentine footballer will rest in a room at a private clinic outside Buenos Aires for at least 48 hours.
