WASHINGTON: The third U.S. presidential election debate between Donald Trump and his Democratic challenger Joe Biden on Thursday will be equipped with a 'silent button' that allows each candidate to speak without interruption.
The organizers of the Presidential Debate Commission said it was an effort to avoid disruption and thus ruin the competition as happened in the first debate.
The commission said each candidate's microphone would be turned off to allow other candidates to make the opening speech at the beginning of each 15-minute segment.
The statement appeared on Tuesday, which is early voting day ahead of the November 3 election, with polls finding that Trump was lagging behind Biden.
The first debate, which took place on September 29, was widely criticized after Trump repeatedly harassed Biden, causing chaos.
The second debate scheduled for last Thursday was canceled due to Trump disagreeing on the format of the contest to be held virtually due to the COVID-19 infection.
