SINGAPORE: Controversial Youtuber from Singapore, Amos Yee, who has been taking refuge in asylum in the United States (US) for the past 3 years, is accused of being involved in the possession of pornographic material involving minors, the Chicago Sun-Times reported .
Amos, who was jailed in Singapore in 2015 and 2016 for insulting Christians and Muslims, reportedly exchanged nude photos and 'thousands of messages' with a 14-year-old girl from Texas.
All of that was done while Amos was living in an asylum in Chicago, the newspaper reported on October 16.
If found guilty, Amos' asylum status can be revoked and deported to the country of origin.
Channel NewsAsia news portal reported that Amos, 20, appeared in the Criminal Court of Leighton Yee, 20, for a bond trial session and was bailed at US $ 1 million and banned from using the Internet while awaiting trial.
The Chicago Sun-Times , quoting Cook County prosecutors, reported that Amos' message chain to the teenager between April and July last year included nude photos he had requested of the teenager. Amos also sent a nude photo of himself to the woman.
The teenager told Amos several times about his age in the message, but Amos had instructed him to delete the age information in the WhatsApp profile they used to communicate.
However, after their relationship became strained, the teenage girl lodged a complaint with a party who was 'interested in uncovering the story of pedophilia', leading to an official report to the authorities.
