WASHINGTON: The U.S. Department of Commerce (US) is expected to issue a restraining order to its citizens to download the TikTok and WeChat applications effective September 20, 2020 (Sunday).
However, according to a Reuters report , the ban could still be lifted by President Donald Trump before it came into force.
The cancellation is likely to be made after obtaining approval by the TikTok owner company, ByteDance.
Earlier, the company was reportedly in talks with Oracle Corp and several other companies to set up a new company to operate the application based on US standards.
It includes ensuring the security of user data of the application.
However, so far there has been no official announcement on the ban.
