COVID-19: Global positive cases close to 40 million, deaths over 1.1 million

The cumulative TOTAL number of global positive COVID-19 cases is now approaching 40 million.
This is due to more than hundreds of thousands of new infections being recorded within 24 hours.
Johns Hopkins University's latest data shows the United States (US) continues to remain the country most affected by the pandemic.
It surpassed the figure of 8 million cases of infection. This was followed by India with 7.3 million cases, while Brazil recorded over 5.17 million cases. COVID-19 infection in Russia surpassed 1.36 million cases.
Meanwhile, Argentina, Columbia, Spain and Peru surpassed half a million cases. Also over 500,000 cases are France, Mexico, South Africa, the United Kingdom and Iran.
Countries in the range of 300,000 to 500,000 cases of COVID-19 infection are Chile, Iraq, Italy, Bangladesh and Germany
While countries that exceed 100,000 to 200,000 are Canada, Belgium, Romania, Morocco and Poland.
There are also some other countries still recording positive numbers below 100,000.
Meanwhile, statistics also show the cumulative number of global deaths due to COVID-19 exceeds 1.101 million cases.

India and Mexico recorded over 112,000 and 85,000 deaths respectively and the United Kingdom recorded 43,000 cases.
Italy, Spain, Peru and France share the death toll with more than 30,000 cases.
Countries with more than 20,000 casualties are Iran, Colombia, Argentina and Russia.
