SINGAPORE: THE PUBLIC know that the COVID-19 epidemic is forcing many countries to 'lock' the border gates from any inbound and outbound traffic, resulting in no cross-border travel.
Not to be outdone, Singapore is also taking steps to tighten the law on the entry and exit of foreigners and its citizens.
The implementation of such restrictions must affect the economic sector, especially the aviation sector which is now only able to operate at a very low rate.
However, despite all that, Singapore Airlines has chosen not to remain silent.
It is reported to be offering 'no direction' flights where planes will take off and land at Changi Airport.
According to the Straits Times news portal, the unique flight concept that takes three hours per departure is expected to start operating by the end of October.
However, until now, the price of flight tickets, flight frequency, type of aircraft and services offered in the cabin has not been determined.
However, Singapore Airlines is not the first airline to offer such a flight.
Japan's private airline, Nippon Airways, also offers non-stop flights using its A380 aircraft.
Also offering similar services, Taiwan private airlines use Hello Kitty aircraft.
The flight received encouraging response as it also gave the public a sense of excitement to fly again.
Singapore Airlines is indeed known as the 'money-maker' in the country's tourism sector and last August, Singapore also announced an economic generating plan to boost the local economy worth RM971.6 million (SGD $ 320 million), as well as offering "tourism incentives" to its citizens.
In fact, it is understood that the civil aviation is also working to work with the Singapore government to attract people to use the service.
